Slicers
CHITUBOX Basic
The other major resin slicer. CHITUBOX Basic is free and there is a paid Pro version; it ships for Windows, macOS and Linux. It is not open source.
CHITUBOX is the slicer that ships with a great many MSLA printers, because its file format is what Chitu Systems control boards understand, and those boards are in a large share of the resin machines on the market. The Basic version is free and covers the essentials: import, orient, hollow, generate supports and slice; the paid Pro version adds mesh repair, analysis and production features. The official documentation describes installation for Windows, macOS (a portable app you drag to Applications) and Linux. It is proprietary software. If your resin printer ships with an official profile, odds are it is for CHITUBOX.
Best for
- Resin printers with Chitu boards, which is most of the affordable ones
- Hollowing and drain holes with fine control
- Anyone wanting a free slicer with no subscription
- Using the official profiles published by the printer maker
Limitations
- Automatic supports usually lag behind Lychee's
- Mesh repair tools live in the paid Pro version
- Not open source
- The interface has changed a lot between versions, so old tutorials mislead
