PrusaSlicer

Prusa Research's slicer, free and AGPL-3.0 licensed. It is the trunk from which Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer branched, and it remains the best documented.

Open sourceFreeWindowsmacOSLinux

PrusaSlicer is Prusa Research's slicer, itself derived from Slic3r and published under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. Its value lies not only in the program but in the ecosystem around it: Prusa's knowledge base documents every material and every failure using the exact nomenclature the program uses, which makes it the shortest route to learning what each setting does. It ships factory profiles for Prusa printers and generic profiles for third-party machines. It is distributed with a Windows installer and a macOS DMG from its repository, and as a Linux AppImage from Prusa's site. It is the yardstick the others are measured against.

Best for

  • Learning what each setting does, with official documentation behind it
  • Prusa printers and generic filament machines
  • Per-object modifiers and height-range settings
  • Anyone who wants a stable program rather than a fast-moving one

Limitations

  • The interface is less modern than Bambu Studio's or OrcaSlicer's
  • It lacks OrcaSlicer's built-in calibration test suite
  • Profiles for other brands are generic and need tuning
  • Resin support is limited to the SL1 ecosystem

Compatible printers

  • Original Prusa MK4S
  • Original Prusa MK3.9S
  • Original Prusa MINI+
  • Original Prusa XL
  • Prusa CORE One
