Resin calculator: millilitres, grams and cost

Assumptions

  • Bottle volume is the figure on the label (typically 500 mL or 1000 mL) and is assumed full at the start.
  • Part volume is what the resin slicer reports. If you sliced with supports, that volume already includes them and the extra percentage only covers residue.
  • The extra percentage covers supports you did not slice, raft, and resin left in the vat and on the build plate.
  • IPA and gloves are pro-rated per part. If you wash several parts in the same bath, divide the IPA millilitres between them.
  • IPA is counted as consumed; in practice it is reused several times before saturating, so this line item is conservative.

Limitations

  • Excludes electricity, FEP/nFEP film wear, LCD wear and UV curing. Use the total print cost calculator for those.
  • Excludes the cost of disposing of contaminated resin and IPA, which in Mexico must be handled as hazardous waste and never poured down the drain.
  • Resin left in the vat between jobs is not lost if you filter it back into the bottle; this calculation treats it as waste if you declare it in the percentage.
  • Price per millilitre varies widely between standard, ABS-like, water-washable and dental resins; use the price of the bottle you will actually use.

How it is calculated

Formula

masa_g = volumen_mL × densidad_g_mL   ·   costo_resina_mxn = (masa_g / 1000) × precio_mxn_por_kg   ·   costo_total_mxn = costo_resina_mxn + (mL_ipa_por_lavado / 1000) × precio_mxn_por_litro_ipa + (precio_fep_mxn / impresiones_por_fep). Densidad de referencia: 1.05–1.25 g/cm³ para resinas fotopoliméricas de 405 nm, según la ficha del fabricante.

Assumptions

  • Volume comes from the slicer (Chitubox, Lychee or the vendor's own), which already includes supports and raft.
  • Density is the liquid-resin figure published by the manufacturer; cured resin is denser, so the finished part will weigh slightly more.
  • Isopropyl alcohol is counted as a consumable per wash, not as a one-off purchase.
  • FEP film life is entered as a number of prints and comes from your experience, not from a figure of ours.

Limitations

  • It does not estimate the resin that clings to the part and is lost during washing.
  • It does not price responsible disposal of used resin and alcohol, which in Mexico varies by municipality.
  • Factory densities are given as a range (for example 1.05–1.25 g/cm³); picking the wrong end shifts cost by up to 19 %.
  • It does not apply to material-jetting or to industrial resins with densities outside that range.
