Short definition
A printing material's density, in grams per cubic centimetre, is the figure that turns the volume reported by the slicer into grams and, from there, into money.

It is the number that makes any cost calculator work. Manufacturer-published values, measured to ISO 1183 unless noted: PLA 1.24, PETG 1.27, ABS 1.04, ASA 1.07, HIPS 1.05, nylon FX256 1.01, PC Blend 1.22, PVA 1.23 (ASTM D1505) and TPU 95A between 1.2 and 1.25 g/cm³. For resin, makers publish ranges, typically between 1.05 and 1.25 g/cm³. Density plus diameter also gives mass per metre of filament: one metre of 1.75 mm PLA weighs about 2.98 g.
