Short definition
A brim is a flat single-layer ring the slicer prints attached to the part's outline to increase its contact area with the bed.
Full definition
It does two jobs: holding down parts with a small footprint, which pop off at the slightest knock from the head, and holding down the corners of large parts prone to warping. It peels off by hand or with a spatula afterwards, leaving a small burr you trim with a knife. Prusa recommends a brim of 3 mm or more to improve edge and corner adhesion on large ASA parts, and 4 mm for polycarbonate parts larger than 5 cm. Unlike a raft, a brim does not sit under the part but around it, so it does not affect the first-layer finish.
