Slicer

Also known as: slicer · laminador · rebanador · programa para impresora 3d · software de laminado

Short definition

A slicer is the program that cuts a 3D model into horizontal layers and generates the G-code with the paths, temperatures and speeds the printer will execute.

Full definition

It is the link between the file you downloaded and the machine. The slicer decides everything the model does not contain: how many perimeters each wall has, what infill percentage goes inside, where supports are needed, how fast the head moves and at what temperature the material melts. That is why the same part comes out well or badly depending on who sliced it. In Mexico the anglicism 'slicer' is used far more than 'laminador', which is the Spanish-from-Spain form. The most used are Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura for filament, and Lychee and CHITUBOX for resin.
